About Our Saffron
Q: Where does your saffron come from?
A: Our saffron comes exclusively from Herat Province in Afghanistan, a region renowned for over 3,000 years for producing the worlds finest saffron. We work directly with local farmers to ensure the highest quality and fair trade practices.
Q: What grade of saffron do you sell?
A: We offer Super Negin grade saffron - the highest quality classification available. Our saffron features long, intact threads (25-30mm), deep crimson-red color, zero yellow or white parts, and maximum potency.
Q: Is your saffron certified?
A: Yes! All our saffron is ISO 3632 Grade I certified, which is the highest international quality standard. Each batch is tested for crocin (color), safranal (aroma), and picrocrocin (flavor) to ensure premium quality.
Q: How is your saffron different from others?
A: Our Super Negin saffron from Afghanistan offers superior potency, aroma, and color compared to lower grades. We provide complete traceability from field to table, direct sourcing from farmers, and guarantee 100% pure saffron with no additives or fillers.
Q: Is your saffron organic?
A: Our saffron is grown using traditional, sustainable farming methods in Afghanistan with minimal chemical use. While not formally certified organic (due to certification challenges in the region), our farming partners follow natural cultivation practices that have been used for centuries.

Usage & Preparation
Q: How much saffron should I use?
A: For most dishes serving 4-6 people, use 15-20 threads (about 0.25 grams). Premium Super Negin is very potent, so a little goes a long way. Start with less and add more if needed - you can always add more but cannot take it away!
Q: How do I prepare saffron for cooking?
A: For best results, bloom saffron in 2-3 tablespoons of warm (not boiling) water, milk, or broth for 10-15 minutes. This releases the color, aroma, and flavor. Then add the entire liquid (including threads) to your dish.
Q: Can I use saffron directly without blooming?
A: While you can add threads directly to dishes, blooming first ensures maximum flavor and color release. For cold dishes like ice cream, always bloom in warm liquid first, then cool before adding.
Q: What dishes can I make with saffron?
A: Saffron is incredibly versatile! Use it in rice dishes (paella, risotto, biryani, pilaf), soups, stews, desserts (ice cream, cakes, puddings), beverages (tea, milk), breads, and with meat or seafood. Check our Recipes page for detailed instructions.
Q: Does saffron have health benefits?
A: Saffron has been used in traditional medicine for centuries and contains antioxidants. While we cannot make medical claims, many people enjoy saffron tea for relaxation and saffron milk before bed. Always consult a healthcare professional for medical advice.

Storage & Shelf Life
Q: How should I store saffron?
A: Store saffron in an airtight container in a cool, dark place away from direct sunlight, heat, and moisture. Do not refrigerate as condensation can damage the threads. A pantry or cupboard is ideal.
Q: How long does saffron last?
A: When stored properly, premium saffron maintains its quality for 2-3 years. However, it is best used within the first year for maximum potency, aroma, and flavor. Always check for strong aroma before using older saffron.
Q: How can I tell if my saffron is still good?
A: Fresh, quality saffron has a strong, distinctive aroma (sweet, floral, slightly hay-like). If the aroma is weak or absent, the saffron has lost potency. The color should remain deep red - fading indicates age.
Q: Can saffron go bad?
A: Saffron does not spoil in the traditional sense, but it loses potency over time, especially if exposed to light, heat, or moisture. Old saffron will have weak aroma and reduced coloring power.

Quality & Authenticity
Q: How can I verify my saffron is authentic?
A: Perform the water test: place a few threads in warm water. Authentic saffron releases color slowly (10-15 minutes), water turns golden-yellow, and threads stay red. Instant color release or red water indicates fake saffron. Our saffron also comes with ISO certification documentation.
Q: Why is saffron so expensive?
A: Saffron is the worlds most expensive spice because it is extremely labor-intensive. Each flower produces only 3 stigmas, and it takes about 150,000 flowers to produce 1 kilogram of saffron. Everything is hand-picked at dawn and processed the same day. Our Super Negin grade represents the finest 5-10% of the harvest.
Q: What makes Afghanistan saffron special?
A: Herat Province in Afghanistan has ideal climate and soil conditions for saffron cultivation, perfected over 3,000+ years. The unique combination of hot summers, cold winters, traditional farming methods, and hand-harvesting at peak quality creates saffron with exceptional potency, aroma, and color.
Q: Do you add anything to your saffron?
A: Absolutely not! Our saffron is 100% pure with zero additives, fillers, or artificial colors. What you receive is pure saffron stigmas, exactly as they come from the flower - nothing added, nothing removed.
