A SIMPLE BLOOMING METHOD
Start small. Bloom gently. Adjust to taste.
- Choose a small amount. A few threads or a small pinch is a sensible starting point for many home dishes; the ideal amount depends on the recipe, number of servings and desired intensity.
- Bloom. Place the threads in a small amount of warm water for roughly 10–15 minutes.
- Add both liquid and threads. Stir the infusion into rice, tea, desserts, sauces or other dishes and adjust future batches to your preference.
Why no universal gram-per-serving rule?
Recipes vary widely, and thread count is not a precise substitute for weight. This guide avoids presenting one dosage as correct for every dish.
Storage
Keep saffron tightly closed in a cool, dry and dark place, protected from moisture, heat and direct light.
Good places to begin
Rice dishes, tea, milk-based drinks, desserts, sauces and slow-cooked dishes all provide room to learn how saffron's colour and aroma develop.
